Reims (1h45mn drive from Paris):
The city is nicknamed ‘the city of coronations’ or ‘city of Kings’. Indeed, it is the future site Notre – Dame de Reims Cathedral that Clovis was baptized by Saint Remi, and many were crowned kings of France for more than ten centuries from Louis the Pious 816 to Charles X 1825.
The Champagne is invented in XVII century by Dom Perignon is one of the historical assets of Reims economy.
Once you arrive to Reims, your driver will escort you to the tourism Office where you rent audio-guides, then visit (1 hour):
Cathedral of the coronation of the kings of France, Notre-Dame de Reims is both center of a large ‘cathedral complex’ and the ideal representation of the heavenly Jerusalem to medieval man.
This is also the symbolic center authority exercised by the Metropolitan Archbishop of the bishops of several dioceses in northern France.
Built between 1211 and 1516, according to a program of great artistic wealth, Reims Cathedral is among the finest examples left by Gothic art.
Palace of Tau:
The residence of the archbishop of Reims adjoins the cathedral from the twelfth century, but it has covered the classic look that currently after the transformations effected in the late seventeenth century by Jules Harduin-Mansart and Robert de Cotte.
Palais du Tau now houses the museum of the work of Our Lady. The Cathedral Treasury and part of the original sculpture of the church are exposed.
The most remarkable of the royal treasure pieces are the talisman of Charlemagne (ninth century) and the chalice of Saint Remi (twelfth century).
The reliquary of the Holly bulb would contain the celestial origin which was anointed the new king at the ceremony of his coronation.
At the end, you will be driven (5 min) to the first Champagne house which we already reserved for you.
The Champagne cellars organize a guided visit in different languages every an hour, every visit takes an hour. You will know the history of champagne wine and all the steps to produce it. Your visit ends with a Champagne tasting.
Your driver will drive you to have lunch at any place you prefer that he already suggested in the beginning of your day. It can be a nice restaurant in Reims or in the countryside on the way to Epernay by the vineyards…
Epernay drive back to Paris (1,5 hours):
City located by the heart of wine country, most of its modern history and its economy is linked to Champagne, the production develops from the XVIII th century and which is the main tourism attraction.
The town also has many protected as historical monuments buildings and Champagne cellars such us Moet et Chandon, Mercier… their you may visit one of them (if all is on a good timing).
